As a educator with New York City Public Schools, I have the privilege of continuing to grow professionally and personally in my role as an educator.
My students are my pride and joy. I cannot wait to see what my students do in the future and will continue to encourage them to explore their interests! They know they can always rely on me! It takes a village to support students and I am glad I am finding mine in teaching. I am committed to being a life-long learner and continuously challenging myself.
In addition to supporting the learning of students, I enjoy supporting staff members. Since my first year of teaching, I always appreciated and rose to the opportunity to plan and lead Professional Development sessions that engaged staff members on topics of interest. Having successfully funded several projects through DonorsChoose, I have served as a liaison for staff interested in seeking outside funds for their classroom activities.
In collaboration with students and staff, as a Culture Lead, I planned and executed several events such as a career fair, end of the year carnival, and Spirit Squad Initiatives that helped “maintain a culture of positivity and celebration during an incredibly challenging year of the pandemic.” Students appreciated these events. As a Hiring Committee Member, I collaborated with my colleagues to identify talented candidates who wanted to join our school community.
I enjoy creating clear and sound logistics that are appreciated by students and chaperones on the many trips I was able to plan such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gerald W. Lynch Theater, and Lincoln Center to push the classroom learning.
As a Track Coach, my students are constantly exploring nearby parks such as Riverside Park and Central Park. It has been a joy seeing students engage in running even in the rain or snow! I feel proud when I can model to students and staff healthy behaviors such as running to work or working out during lunch. I invite other staff members to join us and they usually enjoy their small workout!
My biggest source of satisfaction is the connections I have built with students and families to push their learning. I am a very responsive educator who maintains a clean inbox and responds to my student's needs and requests. I frequently hold office hours and visit students during study halls to conference with them and provide them clear and direct feedback for their next steps. Parents know they can rely on me and consistently text or email me questions. We have worked collaboratively with the collective goal of creating an affirming and warm learning environment for students.
As an Advisor, I enjoy being a bridge linking students and their parents to resources and opportunities that match their interests. Many of my advisees have already enrolled in college courses during high school.
